Easy, breezy Fourth of July…

For the 4th of July this year we did absolutely NOTHING… and I loved every freaking minute of it. BJ is 2 ½ years old and not quite old enough to know what’s going on so we made the executive decision to play into that realization and keep him at home. No parades, no festivals, no crowded fireworks displays… nothing. Just some good old quality time with me and my two favorite guys, a couple of movies and my favorite throw blanket. Life.was.good.
Now, I know I know, we could have taken him out and he would probably have loved to have seen the ton of bright colors busting in the air. But he had absolutely no idea that any of it was going on, let alone any clue as to why. There was some comfort (and probably some laziness) in knowing that this is our last year at pulling anything like this off. Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, the 4th of July… all of the essentials will be in full effect next year. So far we’ve been able to skim a little bit on the holidays with the excuse that he doesn’t know why we’re doing it anyways and has no preconceived expectations. I’ll be the first to admit it’s been kinda nice. But this coming holiday season we’ll be ramping up our festivities, dusting off the Santa suit and beginning some of the traditions that I loved as a kid. So, with this being our last holiday to play it low key… we enjoyed it. Next year we’ll break out the sparklers and paint the town red, white and blue!
So Happy Belated 4th of July to everyone! I hope it was fantastic!!! And we’ll see you guys next year!!!

  1. You were not alone. We did the exact same thing. We didn’t even put any meat on the grill. I ran out late that afternoon and picked up Boston Market. IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!!!
